We would love to hear some of your Nearly Wild Camping experiences and if you think we should be adding anything else, just let us know – hello@nearlywildcamping.org
It’s always nice to put a face to a name so we thought we’d give you a bit of an introduction to each of us and let you know our roles and what connects us to Nearly Wild Camping and Nature. Â
Start by preparing a steady campfire with hot embers and minimal flames. Place a grill rack over the fire if available.
Lay out two sheets of aluminium foil, each large enough to wrap a salmon fillet.
Drizzle olive oil onto each fillet and season generously with salt, pepper, and chopped garlic. Place a few lemon slices and fresh herbs on top.
Wrap each fillet tightly in the foil, making sure it’s sealed to keep in the moisture.
Place the foil packets directly on the grill rack or on a bed of hot embers at the edge of the fire. Cook for 10–15 minutes, turning once halfway through, until the salmon is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
Carefully unwrap the foil and serve the salmon hot, garnished with extra lemon and herbs if desired.
Enjoy your smoky, flavourful campfire salmon with crusty bread or a salad – perfect for outdoor adventures and a taste of the wild!
Our NWC Members Group on Facebook is growing! We’ve been sharing camp photos and tales of experiences we’ve had at some of our Locations around the country. It’s a great place to meet like minded campers and also get & give any tips and advice for heading out to do what we all love – Camping!

Citizen Science is the practice of public participation and collaboration in scientific research to increase scientific knowledge.Â
Through citizen science, people share and contribute to data monitoring and collection programs.
We had Mike King talking about Citizen Science in Nature on one of our Winter Zoom Talks, where he mentioned some of the great Apps that are used to collect this data and at the same time can help you learn more about your findings. Click the link below to see a few of the Apps mentioned, then download them and get started when you head out camping and enjoying nature.Â
You may know that Nearly Wild Camping has a group of volunteers who help with some of our activities. Following the excellent response to the recent questionnaire and other offers of help we are keen to expand this group of volunteers. Some of the main roles of NWC volunteers are to:
Supporting on stands at events or giving talks
Hosting informal club socials or supporting members new to camping
Helping find and support new locations
Becoming a representative for your area
Board members
Everyone is different, so we will discuss the exact mix of tasks with you to suit your skills and interest.
Getting more involved can be very rewarding, expand your own skills, build your social networks and of course, we will give support and other benefits to those who get more involved.
