Nearly Wild Camping Experience Weekend - Feral Science with Rupert Loch Friday 2nd - Sunday 4th August
Feral Science with Rupert Loch
Rupert really needs no introduction. A board member and long-time friend of Nearly Wild Camping, Rupert blends learning and the outdoors effortlessly – plus he is well-versed in NWC experience weekends, having run one last summer (see photo below).
Rupert left behind traditional teaching to focus on the ways we can learn through practical skills in the outdoors. Science is all around us, and the process of “learning by doing” is one encompassed in this Nearly Wild Camping Experience Weekend
Rupert is perhaps first and foremost an educator. He is also a scientist and he has brought together these passions with his love of bushcraft. He has now developed a fantastic and quite unusual product, teaching science to all ages through bushcraft, engaging his learners through outdoor experiences. He calls this unique business Feral Science (https://www.feralscience.co.uk/) . But for those who havenÔÇÖt seen Rupert in action, donÔÇÖt worry, itÔÇÖs nothing like science at school!

The location for this Experience Weekend will be, The Gathering Fields in Lancashire.  This is a beautiful location in The Trough of Bowland on a working farm with 280 acres of land, woodland and rivers. 6 Acres are biodynamic wild flower meadows, where the owner has a passion for wild plants and grows medicinal herbs. The accommodation includes a camping field with its own sheltered camp fire for communal fires, a retreat barn for relaxation or groups that require an indoor space (separate rental) For those that wish to have a little more comfort we have a rustic camping barn also with wood burning stove. Explore the woodlands and venture on to the fells and surrounding Villages, we are remote and have no light pollution just the glorious stars.
This is not designed as a formal training course, but as a learning experience where you can get started and learn some basics in an informal, sociable environment. If you want to miss some sessions, relax or just have time alone, you can. This is not about passing a test, itÔÇÖs about informal learning.
Booking for this MEMBER ONLY event is essential, and will cost £20 per adult (NON-REFUNDABLE booking fee) with under 15s free to attend the experience (all children must be part of a household membership and accompanied by an adult. Max 3 children per adult.  The camp pitch or other accommodation IS NOT included within this fee, so you should book directly with the location provider for this.

We hope to see you there!
Adult ticket for Feral Science Experience Camp Event £20
Child ticket for Feral Science Experience Camp Event £0
NOTE: We have made the decision to charge for the weekend for three reasons:
- The additional income will allow us to host more events
- Feedback from attending members has suggested we should charge a small fee in recognition of what they tell us is ÔÇÿincredible valueÔÇÖ
- In our trials last year 50% of those members who booked did not actually attend, this took up places that could have been booked by other members. Obviously, this is both harder for organisation but also unfair to other members. To try and avoid this it has been suggested a small charge will help avoid this.
