Nearly Wild Camping Experience Weekend with Lucy Cooke - The Wild Cooke Friday 26th - Sunday 28th July

For Lucy, a.k.a The Wild Cooke, any time spent outside is an opportunity to connect with our natural home through the art of foraging.

Lucy will take us into the Welsh countryside in this Nearly Wild Camping Experience Weekend, to look for seasonal wild foods. We will discuss identification, harvesting, ethics, preservation and cooking techniques.

WeÔÇÖve known Lucy for a while now, and some of you may have caught her Nearly Wild Camping Winter Talk where she guided us through her journey to becoming The Wild Cooke and how to forage and cook delicious seasonal foods gathered from all around us. SheÔÇÖs great, and this weekend will be an excellent chance to learn from someone with a deep knowledge of the outdoors and what grows here.

Lucy currently lives with her toddler and husband in the coastal town of Oban, Argyll , but grew up in the Shropshire countryside where she cultivated a love for nature and food. Now sheÔÇÖs dedicated to sharing her passion for foraging through wild food consultation, public events and one-to-one sessions.

This event is set in the perfect location for summer foraging in the stunning dark sky area of North Wales. Belan Bluebell Woodlands is 60 acres of wild meadows, forest glade remote camping pitches and glamping areas. Added luxuries include fire pits, a compost loo and hot recycled shower shacks.

Suzi Drew of Belan Bluebell Woodlands hosted Tara CrankÔÇÖs foraging weekend last year, and has herself delivered a Nearly Wild Camping Winter Talk on outdoor cooking, so you can guarantee a comfortable stay in a beautiful location for this weekend ÔÇô you might even see some Red Kites circling overhead, too!

This is not designed as a formal training course, but as a learning experience where you can get started and learn some basics in an informal, sociable environment. If you want to miss some sessions, relax or just have time alone, you can. This is not about passing a test, itÔÇÖs about informal learning.

Booking for this MEMBER ONLY weekend is essential, and will cost £20 per adult (NON-REFUNDABLE booking fee) with under 15s free to attend the experience (all children must be part of a household membership and accompanied by an adult. Max 3 children per adult

NOTE: We have made the decision to charge for the weekend for three reasons:

  • The additional income will allow us to host more events
  • Feedback from attending members has suggested we should charge a small fee in recognition of what they tell us is ÔÇÿincredible valueÔÇÖ
  • In our trials last year 50% of those members who booked did not actually attend, this took up places that could have been booked by other members. Obviously, this is both harder for organisation but also unfair to other members. To try and avoid this it has been suggested a small charge will help avoid this.
