Nearly Wild Camping Experience Event with Lizzy Maskey from Pippin & Gile Tuesday 20th - Thursday 22nd August
What to expect:
For this Nearly Wild Camping Experience Event, Lizzy Maskey from Pippin & Gile will combine foraging for edible and medicinal plants with balm making and willow basketry weaving. When it comes to cooking the foraged edibles weÔÇÖll collect over the event, Lizzy will teach us how to make a friction fire with a bow drill too. From the collecting to the cooking, this event will be all about learning how to use the natural resources around us for a local (and delicious) experience whilst out camping.
Lizzy has been interested in bushcraft since she was a child. Fascinated with fire and foraging. She became a full-time outdoor instructor in 2013 after achieving her Mountain Leader award, and continued down the bushcraft route, gaining her IOL Bushcraft Competency certificate in 2016.
From paddling across Scotland in a packraft to leading expeditions in Costa Rica, Ecuador, Thailand and Peru, Lizzy has gathered a wealth of experience in bushcraft and the outdoors. SheÔÇÖs cycled from London to Kazakhstan, done tracking trips to South Africa and has extensively explored her home turf too, having lived in Bristol, Skye and many places in between.
Just the Spot is the Nearly Wild Camping location host for this camp. Set within Sussex Woodland, this wooded location meets the river Adur and brushes close to the South Downs National Park. Great for stargazing (and even the odd summer swim), Just the Spot guarantees an idyllic setting for this next camp.
This is not designed as a formal training course, but as a learning experience where you can get started and learn some basics in an informal, sociable environment. If you want to miss some sessions, relax or just have time alone, you can. This is not about passing a test, itÔÇÖs about informal learning.
Booking for this MEMBER ONLY event is essential, and will cost £20 per adult (NON-REFUNDABLE booking fee) with under 15s free to attend the experience (all children must be part of a household membership and accompanied by an adult. Max 3 children per adult.  The camp pitch or other accommodation IS NOT included within this fee, so you should book directly with the location provider for this.

NOTE: We have made the decision to charge for the event for three reasons:
The additional income will allow us to host more events
Feedback from attending members has suggested we should charge a small fee in recognition of what they tell us is ÔÇÿincredible valueÔÇÖ
In our trials last year 50% of those members who booked did not actually attend, this took up places that could have been booked by other members. Obviously, this is both harder for organisation but also unfair to other members. To try and avoid this it has been suggested a small charge will help avoid this.
