Dave Watson, May 2023

This Experience Weekend combined the opportunity to join a Nearly Wild Camping social event along with the opportunity to learn from an experienced thematic provider. The first one, which took place between 19th and 21st May, focused on bushcraft, led by Dave Watson.

Our first Themed Social camp went really well with fantastic feedback from the participants of all ages (from 6 ÔÇô over 60!). The fact that it wasnÔÇÖt a formal training course and people could join in as much or as little as they wished was really well received. After all, itÔÇÖs great to have time to just sit in a quiet location, itÔÇÖs not all about learning things!

Activities at the camp weekend included making nettle cordage, lighting a fire with a bow drill, a walk round the property with the owner to learn about all their projects, wildlife spotting, and even making willow whistles!

Our founder, Steve Evison had many conversations with Members attending the Experience Weekend and had this to say: ÔÇÿWhat have I taken away from these conversations? So much positivity! People who have land finding a way to realise their wishes to share it with others who also ÔÇÿgetÔÇÖ what it is to spend time outdoors in nature, and people who want to get outside loving the way they can find special places. One location owner told me how the income from Nearly Wild Camping gave him the money he needed to buy and plant more trees in his woodland ÔÇô spot on! And several campers have thanked us for setting up Nearly Wild Camping; itÔÇÖs been so lovely to hear that itÔÇÖs working for so many people.ÔÇÖ
